A study highlights the need for improved accessibility to school-based mental health support for migrant children, addressing their unique strengths and challenges. Researchers found a lack of targeted interventions tailored to migrants’ cultural, linguistic, and emotional needs. Barriers to access include mental health stigma, stressors from migration, and systemic obstacles.
Recommendations include using cultural brokers, offering support in home languages, and fostering collaboration between schools, families, and mental health services. Including young migrants in decision-making can also enhance the effectiveness and acceptability of interventions. The study emphasizes addressing systemic and contextual barriers to improve access to mental health care for migrant children.
